A Dream Rebuilt: Luxury Residence in Israel

One of Sara and Nirit Frenkel’s most notable projects is the exquisite luxury residence aptly named “Re-building the Dream.” Situated in Israel, this stunning property was designed in 2022 with meticulous attention to detail. The owners, a couple in their 50s, sought to create a home that would cater to their current and future needs while paying homage to their childhood memories.

The architects faced the challenge of building on uneven grounds, but they transformed this obstacle into an opportunity. By creating two entrances and incorporating various levels into the garden design, they optimized the space and created a harmonious flow throughout the property. The facades of the house were designed with a combination of stone, cement, iron, and wood, adding a touch of natural beauty to the overall aesthetic.

Thoughtful Spaces for Every Family Member

One of the key objectives for Sara and Nirit Frenkel was to ensure that each family member had their own private sanctuary within the home. To achieve this, they planned the residence across two levels. The top level houses the main living space, the master bedroom, and the daughter’s bedroom. The lower level features two spacious bedroom suites for the older children, as well as a safe room that doubles as a guest room.

Inside the home, the design seamlessly blends rustic and contemporary elements. The main living space is characterized by a six-meter-high sloping ceiling, textured oak parquet floors, and an abundance of white wood and linen accents. The carefully curated furniture pieces complement each other, creating a fresh and harmonious ambiance.

Unforgettable Details in the Master Suite

The master suite holds a special place within the residence. Located in the quietest corner of the house, it offers a serene retreat for the owners. The design inspiration for this space came from a Moroccan lamp belonging to the owner, which holds great sentimental value. The lamp’s shades of blue and brown set the tone for the room, which features a walk-in wardrobe with ample storage and a steel bar ladder for easy access.

Adjacent to the master suite, a balcony provides breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. A large library and a cozy reading corner were incorporated into the design, reflecting the couple’s love for reading and culture.

Personalized Spaces for the Children

Each child’s room was thoughtfully designed to cater to their individual preferences and needs. The daughter’s room features dotted textured wallpaper, rattan furniture, and an adjacent bathroom with elongated tiles and a pink cabinet. The older children’s bedroom suites offer ample space and privacy, ensuring they have their own retreats within the home.

Outdoor Oasis: The Garden and Pool

Sara-and-Nirit-Frenkel-interior-deaign-20

The architects paid meticulous attention to the design of the garden, creating a space that seamlessly blends with the natural surroundings. Multiple seating areas, antique oak pergolas, and a fully equipped outdoor kitchen and dining area provide ample opportunities for outdoor entertaining.

The centerpiece of the outdoor space is the infinity pool, offering a stunning view-facing fountain and surrounded by comfortable sun loungers. The careful integration of the garden and pool area with the interior design creates a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor living.

The Inspiration Behind “Summer House”

Another remarkable project by Sara and Nirit Frenkel is the “Summer House” in Israel. Inspired by the stylish streets and houses of Europe, the architects aimed to recreate the charm of a summer retreat in this central city location. The design concept focused on combining nostalgic European chic with a modern twist, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.

The choice of materials played a significant role in achieving the desired aesthetic. “Cooler” materials, such as classic-European style framed glass windows, were used on the exterior, while warmer materials, like shabby-chic wooden floors, created a cozy ambiance inside. The color palette revolved around shades of brown, mocha, smoked browns, and greys, adding depth and warmth to the overall design.

Designing for Practicality and Style

When designing the “Summer House,” Sara and Nirit Frenkel had to consider the needs of a family with three dogs. Practicality was a crucial factor in the selection of materials. The dark-toned shabby-chic wooden floor, with a scratch-resistant finish, was chosen for its durability and ability to withstand the daily wear and tear.

The architects also incorporated various materials as motifs throughout the house, including stone, wood, bricks, iron, and resin. These elements added texture and visual interest, further enhancing the European-inspired design concept.

Bringing the Outdoors In

The beautiful garden and pool surrounding the “Summer House” served as a significant source of inspiration for the architects. Large glass windows were strategically placed to allow the vibrant outdoor view to become an integral part of the interior design. The seamless connection between the indoors and outdoors creates a sense of harmony and tranquility.

Conclusion

Sara and Nirit Frenkel have proven themselves to be masters of their craft, transforming houses into homes that reflect the unique needs and personalities of their clients. The “Re-building the Dream” and “Summer House” projects exemplify their ability to blend natural warmth with modern elegance, creating spaces that are both stylish and functional. With their impeccable attention to detail and innovative design solutions, the mother-daughter duo continues to redefine luxury living.

Going through a long period of various developments, The Kneeland Mansion deserves its asking price of $15 million because of its remarkable history. The mansion is classical in its structure and architectural elements that define iconic characteristics and attributes. What makes it timeless is its creative application of eccentric, contemporary, and transitional interior design and detailing aspects making it relevant to the modern-day luxurious sense of place. No wonder this mansion should be kept and preserved more than the reasons of its beauty and pleasing visual appearances.

Sotheby’s International Realty has the listing.

Clearly, the mansion has been thoroughly taken care of with technical formulation of the designs that preserve its classically-themed architectural elements since 1915. The magical thing about the mansion is it keeps its trend up-to-date even with its completely classical-renaissance main architectural elements. The mansion has high-ceiling rooms and spaces, visible and captivating carved moldings on walls and ceiling, marble-accented fireplaces, and walls that are fully designed to come up with cozy interiors. The floors are also changed to define a base that makes the rooms look warmer. Hence, the floor colors and shades are in pastel and neutral colors to define a versatile base perfect for any rug, carpet, and furniture style.

The rooms have different interior design themes, but the common qualities to describe the design is modern eccentric achieving a formal and edgy appearance to retain the mansion interiors’ integrity of being a 1915 vibe in the current-day situation. The mansion is an important structure of the past and current century because of its presence in society for several decades proving its durable building construction and magnificent views both in its interior and exterior architecture. All of the fixtures and furnishings are changed, similar to the layout of the interior designs. The walls are repainted to give a glowing makeover to fit the trends of the new generation. Wall colors like gray, turquoise, red, and beige are matched with contemporary prints of the home decors, lighting fixtures, rugs, carpets, tables, and chairs.

All architectural structures and elements such as windows, wall partitions, doors, louvers, moldings, and fireplaces remain in place that serves as the framework of the mansion’s overall attributes. The architects and designers just creatively applied the sustainable procedures of integrating the whole place to make it liveable and practically functional for the current setting. All areas became functional and operational through its spacious execution of interior designs making the mansion worth its asking price.

Today’s post is here to highlight the work O’Hara’s modern classic interior design style. Why? Because interior design is as much an art form as painting, drawing, or crafting, and frankly, the designers at O’Hara Interiors are virtuosos in the interior design world. Want to find out what makes them so special? Stick around for today’s post as we explore their unique interior design style.

The New Modern Classic

navy blue kitchen cabinets with light wood island and brown leather stools

To say that O’Hara Interiors is ‘new’ isn’t strictly true. We don’t mean they’re a new interior design firm, because they’re already well established and are working with clients throughout the US and around the world. But they are the new modern classic of interior design because of their designers’ seamless way of blending old and new, monochrome and color, and most important of all, style and comfort.

Take a look at their portfolio and you’ll see some loose threads that show them to be a signature O’Hara Interiors design. There’s no way you could say any of the pictures are the same. Neutral walls seem to be staple (a design trend that’s as big now as it ever was and ever will be), and the ise of color is so delicately in some of their work that it’s almost not noticeable at first glance. But then that’s the beauty of O’Hara Interiors…

Every Room Is An Exploration

Look at any of their work once and you’ll be impressed. Look again, though, and you’ll find even more to love. That’s because the designers create spaces that are not just beautiful at first glance, but a genuine joy to explore. Sure, you might like the simple white kitchen at first, but it isn’t until you look again that you notice the way the soft rug picks up colors from the wooden floor beneath, and the accessories in the kitchen, tying together a space in a way that screams cohesiveness, in the most subtle way possible.

Because ultimately, that’s the thing about O’Hara Interiors. They don’t do bells and whistles, in your face, loud interior design. Even their more colorful work is handled like masters, delicately balancing the large pops of color with subtle furnishings, natural materials, and soft curves mixed with straight lines. They don’t need to distract from a space with bold interior design. They have an uncanny ability to balance every aspect of interior design subtly. And that’s why they’re masters at what they do.

Next Steps

We could talk all day about how the designers at O’Hara Interiors transform spaces in a way that both respects the original space and the wishes of the clients they work for. We could scream from the rooftops about how their use of color is a stroke of genius. Basically, we could go on and on. But we won’t. Instead, we’ll invite you to head to their website to check out their work. If you love it, you can always get in contact with them about transforming a space in your home. And if nothing else, exploring their work will keep you entertained for hours, just like it did for us!

Toronto-based designer Orsi Panos believes, “Design is the yin and yang between comfort and artfulness – it should be supremely livable and inspiring at the same time.”

Orsi is sought after for her “concept to completion” approach and has earned a reputation for her invaluable expertise, diverse design language and sensitive renovations, which always capture the essence of the homeowner.

Her livable interiors are meticulously finished. “I consider every single detail, all while adhering to the abiding elements of beauty, practicality and comfort,” she says. While each project is unique, Orsi has an affinity for showcasing existing architectural elements and often activates spaces with statement lighting, bold artwork and a calibrated balance of colour and contrast.

Restraint is also key. “Nothing in my design is ever superfluous,” she says. “My team and I carefully evaluate every aspect of the design process to prevent our clients from making costly mistakes. I am a proponent of what Frank Lloyd Wright said, ‘You can use an eraser on the drafting table or a sledge hammer on the construction site.’

In Brooklyn’s prime Clinton Hill neighborhood, Murdock Solon Architects completely transformed this Landmarked townhouse while maintaining many of its original elements through creative interventions. The project consisted of the gut renovation of a 3,000-square-foot, multi-unit structure into a single family home with four bedrooms, a home office, two full baths, two half baths, as well as a second garden apartment and 1,500-square-foot backyard.

The owner requested a light airy aesthetic with an open main floor. The primary feature of the home became the parlor floor with an open kitchen and living/dining area. The ceiling heights in this space span from 11 to 22.5 feet and are emphasized by double-height steel-framed windows in the kitchen. A loft-style office was built above the kitchen area to allow the owner to work while still feeling part of the family activities below.

The second floor master suite features a black and white bathroom with both a bathtub and a glass shower, radiant heated floors, and second half bath. The third floor has three bedrooms with a common area, along with a library and laundry area.

The original wood used in the house was reclaimed and refinished. High-end finishes include Italian Effeti kitchen cabinetry, and Waterworks fixtures throughout, and a Tensui water filter was installed for the entire home.

They are multi-layered and collected, blending classic with modern, old with new, high with low and bold use of color, pattern, texture in ways that excite.

We believe that each space should tell the story of the people who live there and should be their ideal version of luxurious living; whatever luxury means to them. “

Lake Como Villa by Studio Daminato. Constructed in 1909 as a large family residence, Villa Peduzzi commands exceptional views over the northern Italian Lake Como. Set within terraced gardens, the villa is built upon a Medieval-style stone plinth. Decorative elements in the Italian Liberty style are integrated into the architectural façade of the villa. Largely abandoned since the 1960s, STUDIO DAMINATO were commissioned to oversee the transformation of the interior architecture, design and decoration.

The two floors above accommodate the private bedroom suites and large en-suite bathrooms. The final floor in what was the original rooftop attic was raised during the renovation to include entertainment lounges, a games room, outdoor terraces and bar. The original tower room was repurposed as the 9th bedroom suite and bathroom. Extensions were made to the stone basement plinth to provide space for a fitness wing along with caretaker’s lodgings. A summer pavilion and swimming pool were constructed in the gardens to the east of the site with breathtaking views over the lake.

Materials, textiles, finishes and colours throughout the villa were inspired by the original painted wall and ceiling frescoes in Liberty-era pastel tones. As with all of the studio’s residential projects, much of the interior joinery, fixtures, hardware, furnishings, floor textiles and wall lighting were specifically custom-designed, with particular 1930s or mid-century vintage furniture and lighting pieces selected alongside newer pieces procured for the villa.

Innovative apartment design in London by Michaelis Boyd.

Our design team collaborated with Diapo and Webb Yates Engineers to integrate a distinctive hanging staircase into one of our London residential schemes.

The origin for this feat of stair design grew from the floating red “Staircase-III” by Doh Ho Suh which was exhibited at the Tate Modern. Working closely with the client we succeeded in merging this striking, but ethereal and almost sensorial sculptural device into the context of their own home.”

“With this staircase we wanted to create a statement piece that was both sculptural and functional”

ALEX MICHAELIS

“The project involved the full refurbishment and connection of two separate first and second floor apartments to create one large maisonette. The living spaces occupy the first floor and the bedroom spaces are located on the second floor above. The floors are connected by this unique sculptural staircase made from perforated red steel, which floats just above the living room floor.”
